Senior Consultant/Project Engineer

Building Envelope Consultants and Scientists, LLC (BECS) is currently seeking an experienced Senior Consultant/Project Engineer with a strong entrepreneurial spirit to join our growing team in our Raleigh, North Carolina Office as a Senior Consultant. This position will be involved in building-envelope investigations, condition assessments, design of building-envelope repairs and subsequent construction administration, and peer reviews of building-envelope designs.

The ideal candidate must be assertive, show initiative, highly organized, detail-oriented, ethical, able to travel, have great communication skills, motivated, excellent time management skills, willing to learn and possess superior administration skills. Additionally, the candidate must be willing to network, build new relationships, and be active in the pursuit of obtaining new and recurring clients.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervise work by technicians and draftsmen and others assisting project team.
  • Able to work on routine projects independently.
  • Act as project manager for small, straightforward assignments and serve as project engineer to assist project manager in engineering, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication for more complex assignments.
  • Develop letters, reports, drawings, specifications, and proposals with moderate guidance from supervisor.
  • Conduct field investigations and on-site construction monitoring.
  • Skilled at time management.
  • Ability to present to client groups and professional organizations.
  • Perform field investigation and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building components.
  • Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.

Required qualifications include:

  • 10-15 years of experience with a Minimum B.A.E. in Architectural Engineering, B.S. in Construction Management, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Interest and enthusiasm in buildings and solving engineering problems.
  • Fearlessness of heights, including climbing ladders and scaffolds and rope access.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills to communicate on the job, and to juries, clients and other professionals.
  • Experience in building construction and investigating building problems, which may include difficulties related to concrete, curtain walls, flooring, glazing, masonry, roofing sealants, waterproofing, wood, windows and building science issues.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 5-10 years working in the Raleigh-Durham area preferred.
  • Licensed Civil/Structural P.E. in North Carolina is preferred.

Project Engineer

BECS is seeking an entry level college graduate with an interest in building enclosure consulting or structural engineering. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university from schools of architecture; engineering; physical sciences; building construction and technology; or similar interdisciplinary programs that integrate architecture or structural engineering is preferred. Qualified candidates consider themselves problem solvers with a desire to apply learned skills to develop practical and innovative solutions for the built environment. Ideal candidates will have the capacity to pursue licensure as an Architect and/or Structural Engineer, and/or earn related professional certifications. A qualified candidate will be graduating their program or have up to five years of relevant work experience.


  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Building and Construction Technology, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Physical Sciences, or Civil Engineering with sound knowledge of building materials, field investigation methods, and scientific principles as they relate to structural and/or building enclosure performance.
  • Interest in participation in local or national professional organizations
  • Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local area as workload and projects require
  • Strong skills in Adobe and the Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and various design programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
